Steps for Learning - Activity Two: Monti’s Music Time
The purpose of this activity is to learn about how compositions are created.
In this episode, Amadeus must attempt to write a new composition before nightfall. But how is a composition written? Monti takes us back to the moment when Amadeus comes up with the musical idea that he uses as the principal theme of his composition. On the basis of this simple musical piece for three instruments (piano, violin and cello), Monti explains how a composition is built up, the notes of each instrument and the single melody. Finally we see and hear the complete composition played by Amadeus, Nannerl and Leopold.
As a class, view Monti’s information.
