Building Background Activity
Activity One: Villains, Villains, Everywhere!
The purpose of this activity is to help activate students’ background knowledge on villains.
1. Write the word “villain’ in the center of a circle on a board. Ask your class to define the word and brainstorm ideas about villains. Encourage them to think of examples of villains from movies, television shows, folk tales and fables, and books. Record students’ responses.
2. Tell your students they are going to create a villain improvisation.
Ask for four volunteers to act out what a villain looks like through facial expressions, movements and sounds. When the improvisations are finished, ask students to add ideas to their brainstormed villain list based on their classmates’ improvisations.
3. As a class, listen to Mozart's "Violin Sonata in A" K. 305". Ask the students to share their kinds of emotions they felt while listening to this music.
