*Make a Marching Band

Celebrate a special occasion or just have fun by forming a marching band. Each person in the marching band should have one instrument. It can be something that is blown into, shaken or banged. If you already have some instruments in the house, gather those together. Maracas, castanets, rattles, tambourines, drums, recorders, flutes or other wind instruments work well while marching. You can also use wrist or ankle bracelets that jangle as "wearable" sound-makers. If you don't have instruments, you can use everyday household objects to make a collection. Here are some ideas for instruments you can make at home, or think up your own creative ways to make instruments.

*Rhythm Claps

This is a fun game to play with a large group. Sit in a big circle. The first person claps one sound. The next person claps the first person's sound and adds a second sound. The third person claps the first and second person's rhythms and adds a third sound. Keep going around the circle, incorporating each person's distinctive clap.

Compose a Musical Phrase

Some short Musical phrases stay in our minds. Think about jingles associated with radio or TV commercials, or the theme song of your favorite television show. Just like those musical phrases, the first nine notes of Mozart's "A Little Night Music" are very distinctive and have been played over and over again in different ways. Check out the game to see how those nine notes sound when played by different instruments.
